The Authenticity of the Book of Daniel (English Edition)

A useful weapon The Authenticity of the Book of Daniel is one of a series of comparatively recent books by Bill Cooper that set out to explore just how reliable certain Biblical books are having been challenged by those who point out the so called ‘errors’ in them. Others in the series are books covering Genesis, Jonah, Joshua Esther and two volumes covering the New Testament. The approach he adopts is the same for each. He presents the arguments put forward by the modernists and then sets out to prove them wrong and that the Bible is 100% correct. He does that both by reasoning and looking at the material evidence, eg archaeological finds and what others, usually ancient writers, have said. And he makes a very good job of it.To return to the book under review: he delves into such things as the date that it claims to be written, Greek words found in Daniel, Daniel’s and Azariah’s Babylonian names, Nebuchadnezzar’s conversion. His arguments are fairly easy to understand, always interesting and are well argued. The book was short enough to read in an afternoon.I was, however, a little disappointed with a few things. For instance, I was surprised that Cooper does not even mention the ‘Prayer of Nabonidus’ that was found among the Dead Sea Scrolls which states that it was Nabonidus that was mad (and not Nebuchadnezzar). His treatment of the identity of Darius the Mede left me annoyed by its brevity and lack of conclusion. He does not write about the prophecies in the final chapters in Daniel though some of the things he says could be applied to them.My criticisms of his book may make you reluctant to read the book but don’t let them put you off. There is plenty there that you will find a blessing and equip you to defend the Bible against those who seek to rubbish it. It shows that we can trust the Bible. In fact, I found it a real joy to read. It will prove very useful weapon in the Christian’s armoury. Bill Cooper is to be congratulated and thanked for such books. A fascinating book that brings together lots of historical evidence - and is not too long!

The authenticity of few books in the bible has been more furiously assailed by critics than the Book of Daniel. The primary reasons for this is: 1. The book is said to make several historical blunders. 2. The language of the period. 3. The position of the book in the third part of the threefold division of the Old Testament Canon (laws and ...

Naturalist's views for dating the book of Daniel are based on false assumptions about prophecy. Since we can verify Daniel's prophetic ideas came true, then Daniel's words appear to come from outside time-space. The date for writing the book of Daniel must be pushed back to match the text and linguistic style of the 5th century BCE.

The Book of Daniel is a 2nd-century BCE biblical apocalypse with an ostensible 6th century BCE setting. Ostensibly "an account of the activities and visions of Daniel, a noble Jew exiled at Babylon", it combines a prophecy of history with an eschatology (a portrayal of end times) both cosmic in scope and political in focus, and its message is that just as the God of Israel saves Daniel from ...

This is the second edition of a 1979 commentary on the book of Daniel. The commentary is completely revised, and the introduction in particular is here much extended and addresses fundamental questions regarding the book of Daniel and the apocalyptic movement it inaugurates (with 1 Enoch).
The book of Daniel exerted a strong influence despite its brevity and late composition. Old Jewish commentators read it as the future God planned for Israel. Modern Bible scholars trace the birth of Apocalyptic literature to its chapters. The commentary of Saadia Gaon is the first serious example of rabbinical reading and displays the multidimensional role of the Book of Daniel.
